The Reclamation Project excitingly completed it's first of hopefully many restoration efforts at Oleta River State Park. Roughly 75 volunteers planted 921 coastal hardwood hammock trees and shrubs at two separate sites within the Park, creating an uncommon South Florida native habitat where there was once a dense forest of the highly invasive Australian Pine. Many thanks to FedEx, Miami-Dade County's PERA, and Oleta River State Park for their support of our project.

Florida's largest urban park, Oleta River State Park is the former site of Interama, a failed development project. Since the 1970s the Park's natural areas have been plagued with invasive plant species. The category 1 invasive Australian Pine has created a monoculture within the Park, forcing out any possibility of the success of native tree populations trying to grow naturally. With a bit of help from human intervention these lands can return to a diverse ecosystem highly benefitting native flora and fauna.
