Get Involved: Schools
Miami-Dade County Public Schools has again partnered with artist Xavier Cortada in presenting Native Flags, an eco-project that consisted of planting a native tree sapling alongside a green flag at every school. Other presenting partners include the Reclamation Project at the Miami Science Museum, the Florida International University College of Architecture + The Arts (where Cortada serves as Artist-in-Residence), the Deering Estate at Cutler and the National Association of Counties.

Miami artist Xavier Cortada created this urban reforestation eco-art project to help restore native habitats for plants and animals in urban areas. Participating students are asked to plant a native tree alongside the green project flag in their front yard and state:
"I hereby reclaim this land for nature."
