MIAMI BEACH EARTH DAY CELEBRATION 2013

Miami Beach Native Flags
a participatory eco-art project by Xavier Cortada

MIAMI BEACH EARTH DAY 2013

The
City of Miami Beach invites individuals and organizations to participate in the Native Flags Eco-Art Project in celebration of Earth Day at Lummus Park on April 27, 2013 (10th Street & Ocean Drive)

Native Flags, developed by Eco-artist Xavier Cortada, Artist-in-Residence | FIU College of Architecture + The Arts, invites participants to create a flag that depicts an eco-action they pledge in support of the environment.

HOW TO PLANT YOUR NATIVE FLAG FOR MIAMI BEACH EARTH DAY

1. Students and faculty, organizations, businesses, and individuals are encouraged to make their
Native Flags out of recycled materials, secure to a pole for ‘beach’ planting, and bring it to
the event. The City's Parks and Recreation Department will also organize flag-painting stations
to help make a flag during the event.

2. At 4PM, everyone who has a flag will work to the shoreline, pledge
to engage in an eco-action to support our environment, plant their flag
on the sand, and proclaim: "I hereby reclaim myself for nature."

3. At 4:30PM, everyone will uproot their flag and participate in the parade.

4. Participants will be able to upload their photos and post their eco-actions
online at www.nativeflags.org or www.facebook.com/nativeflags

To request this material in accessible format, sign language interpreters, information on access for persons with disabilities, and/or any accommodations to review any document or participate in any city-sponsored proceeding, please contact 305-604-2489 (voice) or 305-673-7218 (TTY) five daysin advance to initiate your request.
